American energy healer Bryan Jackson shares his near-death experience from 1993: At age 33, Bryan’s life had collapsed. He was drinking heavily, emotionally numb, and had lost the will to live. Though he entered a treatment center for alcohol abuse without intending to quit, a counselor challenged him to try 30 days sober. He began staying at a friend Wayne’s motel outside Montgomery, Alabama. One night, after dinner at a truck stop, his vision began closing in. Alarmed, he returned to his room, looked in the mirror, and saw complete darkness in his eyes— no light at all. It was the worst he had ever seen. He lay down, pulled the covers over his head, and said, “I quit.”
Then it began. A tremendous noise, like a jet engine or the static of a television off-air, filled the room. It was pink, white, and gray noise, spanning all frequencies so loudly that he couldn’t hear his own thoughts. The darkness was absolute. There was no light, joy, freedom, friends, or hope— and, most disturbingly, he didn’t care. His strict religious upbringing had taught him that this was final: hell, the void. He knew where he was, and there was no escape.
At that moment, a thought surfaced— something the counselor had once told him: someday he would get out of bed, get on his knees, and ask for help. With nothing to lose, he crawled out of bed, knelt, and said, “God, I can’t do this.” Instantly, the noise stopped. There was total silence. Then he heard the familiar, still, small inner voice he had known since childhood: “Go see Wayne.”
Bryan got up and went to the motel office, where Wayne sat with his father’s large-print Bible. There were two chairs; Bryan sat in the other and told him something strange had happened. When he looked at the page, the words seemed to leap out at him. He took the book and admitted he didn’t understand what he was reading. Wayne told him to be quiet and read. The passage described where Bryan had been, where he was, and where he was headed. That moment changed his life completely; he has not had a drink since then.
After his near-death experience, Bryan found he could recognize when others were in that same darkness, describing them as “the walking dead.” Years later, he studied energy healing techniques and learned to focus the energy God gave him, acting as a conduit for healing. His life transformed from despair to hope, purpose, and spiritual connection. He later met others with light-filled near-death experiences, contrasting their experiences with his own dark one. He often reflects that his spirit “woke up in hell,” but that awakening led him back to God, to healing, and to a life beyond anything he could have imagined (IANDS)
