Founded in 1981 as a non-governmental organization, ProVida promotes protecting and respecting human life from conception to natural death. The organization assists expectant mothers by offering free medical care and psychological assistance to women facing unplanned pregnancies. It also provides housing aid, food, and educational support, while organizing seminars and conferences to encourage a culture that values life. ProVida holds Special Consultative NGO status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Today, we’re joined by Mr. Manuel López Gómez, Founder and Volunteer of ProVida, who will share insights on the organization’s pro-life mission and support for expectant mothers. “Even before having an abortion, women are often denied the opportunity to see their fetus. […] Many women don’t understand the dangers of abortion. Because there are many negative consequences (of abortion). These women are told about the ‘meaning’ of abortion, but the traumas－ not only psychological but also physiological ones affecting the body, are hidden from them. Often, psychological traumas, can be extreme, leading to cases of suicide. Physiologically, there can be serious injuries, to the uterus in women, and these can cause a domino effect, leading to injuries to the heart, and other organs. And so, abortion, the consequences of abortion are hidden from the women who undergo the procedure.”Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) has lovingly spoken to the world’s mothers, and offered them compassionate guidance on being pro-life. “Women, please always be respectful to yourself because you are wonderful, you are unique. You are the mothers of the world, the mothers of Saints and Sages, the mother of Lord Jesus, and the mother of Buddhas. So be respectful to yourself. [...] And those women or girls who unfortunately feel like they shouldn’t be pregnant, but they are. And more unfortunately, they tried to or did get rid of the wonderful beings whom God had placed into their body as a fetus. [...]To make such a decision is not good at all. You will regret it all your life. But I have a solution. To redeem yourself of this guilty feeling or of the decision you made that you regret, just do the opposite from now on. Be a babies’ advocate. Be pro-life. Join the pro-life group or society, association. Protect children, adopt children and you will redeem your mistake and you will feel better. [...]”ProVida has also encountered health professionals who have come to regret their role in carrying out abortions in the past. “We have known many health professionals, such as doctors, nurses who have become aware of the monstrosities they have committed against life. Many of them have needed psychological help, including the nurses, some of them have been prevented from committing suicide, due to the trauma of discovering what abortion truly is and realizing the horror they have been complicit in.”The Secular Franciscan Order that Mr. Manuel López Gómez belongs to also firmly upholds the pro-life stance. “Mother Teresa of Calcutta said that the main enemy of Peace is abortion. Young people view abortion as a normal act, when it is not. Abortion is a tragedy everywhere, whereas the birth of a new life is a great joy and a symbol of hope. Without human beings or births there is no hope at all. We must be very realistic about this. It is not only a matter of religious convictions or faith, but also of reality.”
