In today’s news, United Arab Emirates provides emergency aid to crisis-affected people in Haiti. Chinese study finds drylands could cover more than 40% of Earth’s land by 2100, South Korean scientists find benefits of forest therapy for mental health, US chemists transform paper manufacturing waste into chemical compound with energy-storage potential, retired Singaporean taxi driver gives back by cleaning community carpark, Austrian company uses apricot kernels to make vegan cottage cheese, and United States wildlife sanctuary opens new flight complex for injured bird-people.
Today I’d like to share a cleaning tip to help care for your refrigerator. You can help prevent mold and grime on the fridge door gasket with one of two simple homemade solutions. Mix 1 liter of warm water with 1 tablespoon of baking soda in a spray bottle or use equal parts of white vinegar and warm water. Spray the solution along the folds of the rubber seal, paying particular attention to corners and creases where mold can collect. After a short few minutes’ soak, gently clean the grooves with a soft toothbrush, taking care not to bend, compress or scratch the gasket. For stubborn buildup, apply a paste made from baking soda, lemon juice and a little water, leave it on for about two minutes, then gently scrub. Wipe the seal with a soft, damp microfiber cloth and dry it thoroughly. If recommended by your refrigerator manufacturer, a thin layer of petroleum jelly after cleaning can help keep the gasket supple and prevent sticking.
Now it’s time to put on the hilarity headphones and listen to the joke, called “Speak Now.”
A young bride was worried that her beloved sharp-tongued parrot companion, Jasper, would insult the guests during her wedding. Her father suggested a simple solution:
“Just cover his cage. He’ll think it’s nighttime and fall asleep.”
On the wedding day, the bride covered Jasper’s cage, and the ceremony went perfectly— until the minister reached one important question.
“If anyone objects to this marriage, speak now or forever hold your peace.”
“I object!”
The guests gasped, and the bride’s father quickly pulled the cloth from the cage. “Relax! I object to being left in the dark, not to the marriage. Although, judging by that crooked tie, the groom must have gotten dressed in the dark, too.”
